Realising potential
Supporting scholarships for students from low-income backgrounds is an important way to help increase access to higher education and provide opportunities for students who may not have the financial means to attend university otherwise.
Your donation will have a direct impact on the lives of these students, allowing them to pursue their academic and career goals without the burden of financial stress.
DonateI simply cannot describe how amazing it feels to finally not be constantly burdened by my financial situation and home life; it makes me feel like a normal student.

Types of scholarships
Talented students can miss the opportunity to study at university because they are from disadvantaged or low-income backgrounds.
We are committed to removing barriers to a new generation of Strathclyders who have the ability and ambition, but not always the means, to pursue higher education.
Widening Access to Education
Strathclyde has always believed that access to education should be about talent rather than the ability to pay. We are committed to removing the financial barriers that stop people from disadvantaged backgrounds from choosing a university education.
How does a scholarship help a student?
Our donor-funded undergraduate scholarships are awarded to those from the most disadvantaged areas who may not be able to afford to attend university. Scholarship students are awarded to support the essential costs of university including living, travel and learning resources. A scholarship offers so much more than just financial support - it brings confidence, ambition and the desire to succeed.

Postgraduate Scholarship awards can help fund important work that tackles the big challenges facing wider society.
As a leading international technological university, we continue to take strides in developing pioneering research with global influence.
We seek to attract the best researchers, providing them with the means they need to succeed.
Students have a range of different funding needs and there is the opportunity to part-fund students who require a portion of their support to be met.

It is important for our students to gain an international outlook in today's global economy, they can do this through International Study or short-term overseas learning opportunities.
An international experience allows students to live independently, be exposed to different cultures and new challenges.
The high cost of International Study can stop students from taking this opportunity. Our alumni community support a number of scholarships to help reduce the financial burden:
- Neil Hood Memorial Fund - established in memory of the late Professor Neil Hood to enable students to gain an international experience. Students from Strathclyde Business School are provided with bursaries starting from £500 to help with the cost of their exchange
- Widening Access International Experience scholarship - students from low-income or disadvantaged backgrounds are less likely to gain international experience because of the cost. We are looking to remove this barrier by supporting their International Study or funding a short-term overseas learning opportunity
- Alumni Fund International Study scholarships - the Strathclyde Alumni Fund provides £500 travel bursaries to almost 70 students each year

The scholarship allowed me to cut down my part-time working hours to a manageable level to allow a full commitment to studying to succeed in my course. Without the scholarship, I most definitely would not have been able to afford the travel and living costs of university without substantial part-time work.
